That is how lua works. You must invoke the garbage collector or close your lua state for being sure that unused references are released.
from luabridge3.
Look at this example:
struct RefCounted : luabridge::RefCountedObject
{
explicit RefCounted() { constructed = true; }
~RefCounted() { deleted = true; }
static bool constructed;
static bool deleted;
};
bool RefCounted::constructed = false;
bool RefCounted::deleted = false;
TEST_F(RefCountedPtrTests, LastReferenceInstantiatedFromLua)
{
luabridge::getGlobalNamespace(L)
.beginClass<RefCounted>("Class")
.addConstructor<void()>()
.endClass();
EXPECT_FALSE(RefCounted::constructed);
EXPECT_FALSE(RefCounted::deleted);
runLua("local o = Class(); result = false");
EXPECT_TRUE(RefCounted::constructed);
EXPECT_FALSE(RefCounted::deleted);
lua_gc(L, LUA_GCCOLLECT, 1); // <<< The RefCounted instance is reclaimed by lua's garbage collector after it had a chance to fully run
EXPECT_TRUE(RefCounted::deleted);
}

I see, thanks for your reply. It helps me a lot.
