This is probably too late to be of any help to you @bobbytuck, but yes it is possible. Just not within the settings. You'd have to have an external script to, or an addition/edit within jquery-expander to replicate this functionality.

@travco. Yeah, this is pretty straightforward.
Sorry for the delay, @bobbytuck. You can achieve this by adding a simple mouseenter event handler. Something like this should work:

$('.myexpander')
.expander()
.on('mouseenter', '.read-more, .read-less', function() {
  $(this).trigger('click');
});

You'll have to change the class name from "myexpander" of course.
