Is the route
option sufficient for your uses?
from meddleware.
route
option is just to apply middleware for specific routes, right?
I'm looking to specify app.get
route code in middleware, i can put it any controller file and it works fine. It would be good if all code corresponding to a middleware lies in same page.

I'm not sure I follow.
Middleware is generally a single function in a continuation-passing style series of calls. Generally, an authentication middleware would do what it needs to in order to conclude if a user is authenticated or not, then either handling it or expose that information downstream (i.e., to further calls in the continuation) one way or another. Two two more popular ways of passing that information along are sticking them on properties of the request or using something like continuation-local-storage.
If I understand you correctly, what you're describing isn't really a traditional middleware. Sounds like you're just describing a portable piece of code that registers a route on your app.
If that's the case, you have several options though here are a couple that I—personally—recommend: you can write a module that exposes an express Router
instance, or one that exposes an app
instance (depending on your needs). Then, you'd just mount the exposed router
or app
on your parent app
.
That said, if you truly want an authentication middleware, check out passport.
