background opacity blending is done by the window manager/compositor,
not the application. Applications cannot even know what is under them to
blend. You should ask the developer of whatever compositor you are using
why blending is done like that. Most likely it is some difference in how
opengl and non opengl surfaces are blended.

It also has the same bug on kde. It doesn't exist before but after some random update of kitty. However, I am not sure which update since I switched to konsole a long time ago.
