I have hidden children in my menu and they are selected correctly. What do you mean by "marked" correctly?
Do you have a piece of code to show?

Think of a menu structure with 3 levels.

You only render the first level:

{{ knp_menu_render(mainMenu, {depth: 1}) }}

An element on the 3rd level is active. Now the parent element on the 1st level should be marked as current_ancestor.

Ok, I'm not using depth that's why.

I think the best solution would be to use 2 separate settings for the rendering depth and the matching depth (you may still want to limit the depth when searching descendant current items for performance reasons). What do you think about it ?

Yes, that is exactly what I thought, two separate settings seem like the solution.
