The only thing to be aware of is the calculation of sibling breakpoints, where the code subtracts/adds the values of the sibling breakpoints params (i.e. minWidth, maxWidth).

As mentioned, to perform a proper mathematical operations with the explicit measurement units, you would need to use existing calc function.

The problem comes when you call it like this:

calc(breakpointMd.minWidth, 1, (a, b) => a - b)

Considering that defaultUnit: rem, calc will scream at this operation because it treats "1" as "1rem", forbidding you to perform ambiguous operation between pixels and rems.
