Thanks a lot for the concise test case!
Indeed, this bug was introduced with 0.5.0.0, more specifically with type-changing lenses. Previously, in the simple Lens' s a case, knowing the return type of a field update gave us the original structure's type (as they had to be the same by definition).
What happened here was that the inference algorithm for the new lenses only computed the result type from the input type, and not vice versa, but of course that's a perfectly sensible thing to want, and I've pushed a fix.
I'll make a release later today, thanks again!
