The RAM addresses seem to support some Luigi manipulation via the num-players flag. luigi-patch branch has the changes to start a game as Luigi. However, the game softlocks after the first death. the memory address for disabling movement seems to get set and not cleared by the game's logic. attempts to manually adjust it either failed to resolve to softlock, or returned luigi back to mario for consequent lives.

SMB2 differentiates Luigi from Mario with different properties. This could complicate the introduction of general Luigi features.

SMB2 also has no two player, meaning its implementation for Luigi-ability should be easier.

closing this issue as sadly, Luigi support really provides nothing functionally useful and complicates the codebase
