Was looking around today at the API. Might not be possible. I could only see API docs for defining custom Status Bar components. Not to programmatically define a Status Bar

Yes, it allows creating custom components though but that also wouldn't be a possibility because it requires the script to be running as a long term process and in our case, itomate just exits after rendering the panes.
