Chat group could be good for general discussions. But it's also dangerous.
It's very important that communication about code is kept in one place where everybody can access it. You can't in pull request refer to messages in a chat app like "as we said in discord....". People who are working on code may miss important information. You can't assume that everyone will hangout in the chat app. Many people will just dive in to one specific issue and have no information about what has been told in the chat.
