Still shouldn't crash. This usually happens when you don't close a socket before it gets garbage collected. I think that I'm going to detect this case and close it automatically, with the hope that if you did not want this behavior, you would have kept a reference to the socket. Sound good?

That sounds good.

I'm a bit off as to why it it's being garbage collected - I'm creating a singleton that's connected to zmq and am not disposing of it until my node process is terminated.

could easily be a reference counting problem on my end. I need to look at it a bit closer and make sure i'm doing everything correctly there.
