Is this as simple as making a new error message in error.c and using it here:

lci/interpreter.c

Lines 1531 to 1537 in 6762b72

val = getScopeValue(scope, scope, target);
if (!val) {
error(IN_VARIABLE_DOES_NOT_EXIST, target->fname, target->line, image);
deleteIdentifierNode(target);
free(temp);
return NULL;
}

or did you have something more fancy in mind? What kind of error message are we looking for?

from lci.
