There's been multiple changes to MSVC discovery on recent CUDAapi versions: now also looking on PATH, and reporting invalid version strings (similar to #56). That should give more information in this case. Could you run with latest CUDAapi on v0.7/v1.0?

Given the output you mentioned, the regex should work fine:

julia> verstr = "Microsoft (R) Incremental Linker Version 14.00.24225.1"
"Microsoft (R) Incremental Linker Version 14.00.24225.1"

julia> m = match(r"Version\s+(\d+(\.\d+)?(\.\d+)?)"i, verstr)

RegexMatch("Version 14.00.24225", 1="14.00.24225", 2=".00", 3=".24225")

from cudaapi.jl.

I encountered this problem when using Knet, and now everything works fine on Julia 1.0 after update.
This issue can be closed, I think.
