I think a more sustainable solution might be to allow a config with all the global names jshint should ignore and we can provide a config for CouchDB.

I think that is the pattern that is being employed here. This is the commit to add support for Node.js globals

Yeah, for each environment there is an option to make some variables predefined globals. Once we have a full list, I (or anybody else) can add it as an option couch.
