SyntaxError: Unable to load JSCS config file about gulp-jscs HOT 4 CLOSED

Changing the encoding of the .jscsrc file to "UTF-8 without BOM" solved it for me.

@tbandixen Thanks, I've been stuck on this for a couple of days. For others with this problem using Windows and Visual Studio, you need to save the file as 'UTF8 without Signature' which is the same thing as BOM or Byte Order Mark.

Ideally gulp-jscm or jscm itself should handle either encoding.

This plugin is just using require('jscs/lib/cli-config').load() to get the config file. This needs to be opened on the main JSCS issue tracker. They could use https://github.com/sindresorhus/load-json-file which strip the UTF-8, and would fix this issue.

For others who find this issue and the above doesn't help: Check that the syntax of both your .jscsrc and package.json files is valid.
