That makes sense, thanks for the suggestions. I've got various updates in the queue for the plugin, I'll try to tackle it these days. A patch (aka fork+pull request) would be welcome!

This will be the case with all others as well, like min/max. Best thing to do is to disable html 5 validation: we use

$('#myform').attr('novalidate', '');

@jzaefferer was this not fixed by adding input[type="email"] to the validateDelegate() call in init?

Also it looks like novalidate is being set on line 35: https://github.com/jzaefferer/jquery-validation/blob/master/jquery.validate.js#L35
