The compile helper keeps track of each file's target (html,css, js) - let me poke around and see if there's a way to do this without a significant slowdown. It would be super helpful if you could poke around with the watcher and see if you can get it to emit the file type.

Actually I'm wondering if making the watcher extend eventemitter would be a good idea in general. Just speculating though

Also, the next big step after this would be to have the watcher return what operation happened on the file. Really it would just need to know the difference between modified/new and deleted, so that instead of trying to recompile a deleted file it would just remove it.
