In 1996, I started professionally with "The Internet."
As I pioneered one of Spain's first Internet Providers, a revolutionary breakthrough unfolded before my eyes: the dawn of the World Wide Web! With HTML as our creative catalyst, we brought forth the first-ever web pages. I'm proud to share that this was the exact moment when our company became home to some of the earliest online experiences. The landscape was dominated by Perl, the lone champion of coding prowess, but I saw an opportunity to shape the future - and that's precisely what I did!
- I embarked on an odyssey fueled by determination and a passion for the uncharted. The quest began with a humble purchase - a collection of CDs containing the Slackware Linux Distribution and its source code.
- From there, I took on the challenge of compiling a Linux server from scratch, using a kernel as ancient as 0.96
- But that was just the beginning! I wrestled with kernel drivers in C to tame the beasts known as serial multi-port cards, allowing our modems to reach speeds of 28,800 bauds - a market-leading feat!
- As the stakes grew higher, so did my ambition. I ran local Linux servers and Windows NT Servers, simultaneously hosting SMTP, NTP, DNS, and HTTP servers.
- And when the time came to connect with the world beyond, I seized the reins of a Cisco router, linking our dedicated X.25 direct line from Madrid to Paris - a true marvel of connectivity!
- And so, as I gazed out at the vast expanse of "the Internet" (a hearty hello to RIPE!), I knew that my journey had been one for the ages!
Later, a lot of stuff evolved at light and warp speeds 🚀
Lots of new programming languages, data centers, Linux servers, Windows servers, NAS, SAN, Firewalls, Databases, web servers, application servers, and routers.
Virtualization, CLOUD architectures (started cloud with AWS in 2006), more development methodologies, more microservices, dockers, Kubernetes, agile methods, and new open source projects with more amazing tools every time.
I am always enjoying it as my first time when I started programming Basic in a glorious Sinclair ZX81;
🛠 I keep learning and being amazed by all new market trends, products, and solutions.
