The Excel functionality is provided by the xlwt module. I'll look through the docs and see if it mentions the limitation.

FYI, there are some loose plans to add in xlsx support, if I can find a good library to rely on for that functionality.

I started playing with openpyxl, and it seems to work.I just created a 75k row excel file with it. I just made a proof of concept commit to my fork, but I'm going to work on cleaning it up some more tonight. Maybe it can find it's way into tablib proper. :)
