It works with SL4A and on the old PythonCE. I didn't test it with
other phones (I don't own any). There should be a description on how
to run it on the mailing list somewhere...
Best,
M.

www.cellbots.org is using XMPP for "chat" between cell phone on robot and

Okay. I tried it with my ACER Iconia 500 and it worked! So, I will try it also with my Samsung SII and one other phone. Otherwise, brilliant! Thanks for the help.

Having SPADE working in the ACER Iconia 500 are great news! We will be pleased if you confirm us that it is also working on the SII. Thanks a lot!

Initial trial on SII stopped when I found a XMPP folder blocking the SPADE2 folder's installation of folder with same name. I had only installed (I thought) the python with no extra packages on the SII to run the basic scripts. I may have snuck something else on (I have been playing with ZEROMQ and ZERORPC) and a few other distributed python approaches and likely should have kept better notes about what I was installing ;) So, I will clean out the python and put it back on to get a clean install.
I will also run a few extra tests on the ACER Iconia on the weekend - I ran a few examples and all worked so that is likely a good indication but to be sure to be sure ;)

Ah, curiouser and curiouser. Seems the python comes with an XMPP folder so it would appear the settings I had on my ACER Iconia allowed me to copy over the original XMPP folder contents (without reporting said offence ?) and the SII won't let me copy over the python XMPP folder.
So, I will go back and test the ACER in more detail but I might also test any XMPP examples against the files adulterated by the SPADE2 install. If they are okay I will leave as is otherwise I might need to perhaps change the SPADE2 XMPP folder another name (and also make the requisite file changes). Won't rush there thought it may cause a problem where things like CellBots uses XMPP.
I don't suppose anyone has tried something as auspicious as running non-FIPA clients on same chat server??
