i was able to get it working.

i recorded a 30s sample in osci-render and loaded that into dood.al and it looked fine.

then i tried the same in BespokeSynth and it was still rendering incorrectly.

the fix was disabling autocorrelation on the lissajous module and running everything through wireplumber/alsa at 192khz

@jameshball i think you want to change the input to 1&2 -- basically, i think this sort of rendering problem indicates a missing stereo channel in pipeline.

Thanks for reporting this! I'll take a look at this on Windows. Is there any chance you could try this out by visualising the output on another software oscilloscope like the ones I've mentioned in the README to try and locate the issue? I would recommend https://dood.al/oscilloscope/ if you can route your mic to it.

@jameshball i was able to route to the microphone to the one you linked and the rendering is also wrong there.

could it be an issue with sampling frequency?

i tried 48khz to match jack settings and 44.1khz to match the dood.al but neither helped.

jameshball avatar jameshball commented on June 19, 2024

Thanks for checking that! Definitely part of the issue will be sampling frequency. I also have a suspicion that JACK is applying some sort of special effect here? Would you be able to confirm that, or potentially use an alternative software to see whether that's causing it?

Typically you should be using 192khz if possible, but you should still get a decent image with 44.1 or 48khz.

I get a similarly distorted image when using BespokeSynth, but unfortunately, I don't think that's an issue on my end. All looks correct when I render it at the same time on my real oscilloscope :)

Disabling autocorrelation didn't make any difference for me 😕

You're welcome! Btw just FYI looks like the Y direction is flipped on BespokeSynth

khimaros avatar khimaros commented on June 19, 2024

i'll file a bug for that with bespoke.

would toggles to flip x/y in osci-render also be a reasonable feature request?

from osci-render.

jameshball avatar jameshball commented on June 19, 2024

Yes that's absolutely a reasonable request, I'll add that shortly :)

Released this https://github.com/jameshball/osci-render/releases/tag/v1.19.3 :) Use the View menu and there are toggles that will be saved with your project file
