Hi @tjyang - thank you for opening up this issue, I've been meaning on updating but you beat me to it =]

Are you seeing this as a result of running the kitchen tests or is this in a separate VM?

The kitchen tests use pillar.example which has version: 1.6 defined.

If you are getting this from a "real" system and not the test suite, than it may be the case that the pillar needs updating or is cached possibly.

Either way, my guess is that golang:lookup:version is set to 1.6 and overriding the updated values in defaults.yaml.

After updating defaults.yaml to match yours above, bumped the version in pillar.example and finally updated the tests here and here the tests all pass.

If you want to open a PR with the necessary changes, I can hold off on updating HEAD. Otherwise I'll push what I've got here.
