VSIX extension fails to install about iswix HOT 7 CLOSED

IsWiX doesn't have a VSIX extension. That's a WiX extension and an issue should be filed for it at https://github.com/wixtoolset/issues/issues or post a question in the wix-users list.

IsWiX does unfortunately build on top of Wix like:

VSXXXX -> WiX 3.11 -> VSXXX Extension -> IsWiX

So you will need to fix that issue before IsWiX will fully work for you. (Project templates will be missing.) The Tools | Launch IsWiX should be there.

I did a search for "wix votive VSIXInstaller.NoApplicableSKUsException" and it wasn't very promising Bob and Rob over at WiX keep telling people to reach out to Microsoft because VSIX decides what it detects.

I will say that my standard practice is to put my Application projects in an Application.sln and my installer projects in an Installer.sln for this very reason. This way my devs can go latest and greatest (say VS2017) while my installer can lag behind on older more time tested versions of software (say VS2015).

Hi,
I've been using ISWix with VS 2017 community edition for some time now. I installed the WIX toolset from the msi on their site (http://wixtoolset.org/releases/v3.11.1/stable), then installed ISWix. The ISWix templates are under the main Wix Toolset header when creating a new project.

Sorry, I just checked and I did have to install the VS extension from here:

It was in my downloads directory so I most likely downloaded it and double clicked it. I don't see why VS 2017 Enterprise wouldn't be supported. Did you install the Wix toolset first?

I install WiX then the WiX VSIX extension and then IsWiX. I've tested in VS2017 Community and Professional. I don't have Enterprise currently but it should work. This would be WiX / VSIX issue not an IsWiX issue so I'm closing this.

And there is VS2017 Enterprise with WiX / VS Extension and IsWiX properly installed. Note along the bottom there are icons for VS2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017. They are all working as expected.

In fact, we now have an inhouse CICD pipeline to this VM to make this type of testing easier.
