There's currently a check, but I think the idea is to change the implementation so that the user doesn't have to find out by attempting to register and having the page refreshed with the error.

Either writing an API for this, like a simple /user_exists?username= , remember the fields using localStorage or feed the form data back inside render_template would work i think?
