Maybe something like this:

CC=gcc

yocto:
     $(CC) -o yocto main.c -lncurses

or:

  # the compiler: gcc for C program
  CC = gcc

  # compiler flags:
  #  -Wextra    turns on extra warnings
  #  -Wall         turns on most, but not all, compiler warnings
  CFLAGS  =  -Wall -Wextra

  # the build target executable:
  TARGET = yocto

  all: $(TARGET)

  $(TARGET): main
  	$(CC) $(CFLAGS) -o $(TARGET) main.c -lncurses

  clean:
  	$(RM) $(TARGET)

Make sure to replace spaces with tabs
