The problem is that in that response errors is plural, but the lib is looking for error (or message) singular. You can either change the response or override handleResponse. to process it as you see fit. Using meta will not give you access to response bodies.

Also, if you do find a nice way to generalize this case of an errors array, feel free to open a PR to change how parse(cause) works. I'm not sure if we should take the first error, map over them, or what, but opening a PR could generate some discussion.
