Decreasing the overall size of a slug does little to affect your application if the contents are not loaded into memory. This is not a very common use case, as most people either serve assets directly from their app, or use cloudfront or another CDN like varnish to cache assets rather than using asset-sync. You could enhance the asset:precompile rake task (like in an initializer) in your own application to run code after that task is run, or you could fork and run your own custom buildpack to achieve this functionality.
