An Ansi encoded Python file with a coding comment specifying a utf-8 encoding is
treated exactly the same as "UTF-8 No BOM" encoding. So it will work just fine.

PS.
If you type the coding exactly as "utf-8" (lower case) then Pyscripter will
show the
coding as UTF-8 No BOM.

Pyscripter's UTF-8 encoding options results in the BOM being added.

The distinction between ANSI and UTF-8 NO BOM is relevant for non python files
for
which you have the option (IDE option) to detect UTF-8 by scanning the fist 4K
of
text in the file. For python files instead the coding comment is needed for
specifying the encoding (utf-8 or other).

HTML and XML files can also specify the encoding but this is not traced by
PyScripter.

I think you misunderstood my bug. What I meant is that, if I type the coding
exactly
as "utf-8", the file *becomes* utf-8 correctly when saved, *BUT* the edit menu
will
still show "ANSI". If you then close and reopen the file, it will show "UTF-8
no bom".

The bug is that the edit menu is not updated after a save, only after a load.

And what I said is that this is just fine since "An Ansi encoded Python file
with a
coding comment specifying a utf-8 encoding is treated exactly the same as
"UTF-8 No
BOM" encoding".

Furthurmore I said above that "the distinction between ANSI and UTF-8 NO BOM is
relevant for non python files..."
