@jonschlinkert any suggestions/code on how to do this for CSS and JS files? Usemin won't produce relative paths and I'm already using assemble so I'd love to do something like this.

Agreed, that'd be very nice.

One possible idea could be to do what my flow's being built around: Filerev and https://github.com/richardbolt/grunt-filerev-assets to get a JSON-file that gives the "old" name and the "new" name as a map.

you could try this for CSS: https://github.com/jonschlinkert/handlebars-helper-css, If you have issues with it, give me feedback so I can get it working the way it needs to, then I can do the same with a js helper.
