Moreover now in google_compute_instances proper name for disk is one of: boot_disk, attached_disk or scratch_disk. disk is deprecated. While in instance template, only disk will work.

Hi! We talked about doing this, but on closer examination of the resources, we feel they've diverged in semantically meaningful ways in the time since this issue was opened. Because the use case for an instance and an instance template is different, we feel that trying to reconcile these isn't a worthwhile activity for the moment. While consistency is always something we want to achieve, we don't want to do that by making two things that don't behave the same look like they behave the same.

I'm going to close this issue out, but if anyone has a need for this or this would benefit their use case, I'd love a new issue opened explaining how this would be beneficial.
