I'm using Firebug FF extension in inspection mode. So I can hover over the elements
and Firebug shows me the code.

Apologies for the bogus comment above. Please ignore.
PS: I was testing the comments and file upload features and expected that empty
comments and files would be ignored (Google has set such high expectations to
everything they do!). Sorry again for the "noise".

This firebug tip should be added to a guide: how to program with GWT. Its very helpful!

Firebug does not work under GWT's hosted mode IIRR... Unless Firefox is now
supported (which would be great!).

I use Firefox with Firebug and the Web Developers extensions installed. Between
these two tools I can do all the debugging I need to do regarding HTML, CSS, and
Javascript. I can modify any of the above on the fly, and see immediate changes in
the browser. I can outline tables, cells, and any other HTML object. I can inspect
the DOM by hovering over the item I want to see. I can see exactly what styles are
being applied to a give item, no matter how many style sheets and inline styles there
are. I can see the layout of the box around a given item, including height, width,
padding, and margin values. Plus much, much more. This doesn't even begin to cover
the capabilities of these two extensions.
Here is the URL to learn more about the Web Developer extension:

And just for the record... you don't always need to recompile to see the changes in
Firefox. Once you are in hosted mode and have compiled once from hosted mode your
changes will most likely be seen in Firefox by just doing a refresh -- at least most
of the time it works this way. I haven't quite figured out when it works, and when
it doesn't
