Hi
Thanks for the bug report - First up, just want to make sure you're trying to access the restrictions passcode (which restricts what you can do with which apps), and not the unlock passcode (which unlocks the phone itself so you can use it). Pinfinder can only help with the first.
If it's the restrictions passcode you're trying to recover, can you let me know if you're running on Mac or Windows?

Hi @streetw - sorry got caught up with the day job ;-)
Can you try downloading this version: https://gwatts.com/pinfinder/pinfinder-mac-1.5.1.dev1.tar.gz
If you run it from a command prompt as ./pinfinder -diag
it will generated a file called pinfinder-debug.zip
which should contain some information that might be helpful to see what's going wrong - It will not contain any personal information (feel free to unzip and verify for yourself, of course) but will include the output of the command, and the file in your backup that should actually contain the pin we're trying to get.
If you can email that to [email protected]
i'll take a look at it and see what's what

Hi Brian - Let's make things a little more straightforward - Try this version instead: https://gwatts.com/pinfinder/pinfinder-mac-1.5.1.dev2.tar.gz
This version will automatically run in a diagnostic mode and create a file called pinfinder-debug.zip
in the same folder that you ran pinfinder
from (ie. probably your Downloads directory)

Very odd; opens ok for me.... ok try this one instead https://gwatts.com/pinfinder/pinfinder-1.5.1dev2.dmg
If you open that, right click on pinfinder
and select Open
to run it, it should put the pinfinder-debug.zip
file in your home directory (not on the desktop)

@streetw any luck?

@streetw the .dmg file i linked to isn't working for you either? That makes no sense; i've tried it on two machines and it works fine for me... time to reboot? ;-)

@streetw i'm not seeing a video linked here; where should i be looking for it?

still not seeing it; feel free to email directly to [email protected]

got the video - what happens if you right-click on pinfinder and select "open" - I suspect it's just due to gatekeeper complaining that the program isn't signed

which version of OS X are you using? Seems very odd that you can run the original version of pinfinder ok, but not this build - they're literally built the same way

well.. that's why i generated the .dmg version instead; it let's the OS handle unarchiving so it should of prevented any corruption issues.
Just out of curiosity - what happens if you download using Safari instead of Chrome?

hi @streetw - glad you found it.. sorry this didn't work out for you; i'm still really curious why it's not working for you though.. I've not had similar feedback after 50,000+ downloads
If you do manage to get that diag version to run, I'd really love to see the output
from pinfinder.
Actually given you went through that process to find it, you'll have found the file that holds the encoded pin - If you could just email me that, it might help determine why pinfinder didn't find it on the first go (assuming you don't mind me knowing what the pin is! Hopefully you've changed it ;-) )

not sure why attachments aren't working (usually just a case of dragging and dropping photos into a comment), but in any case it's really just the full contents of that 398bc9c2aeeab4cb0c12ada0f52eea12cf14f40b
file that i'm after - maybe you can just email it to me
Thanks!

@streetw i know you solved your problem already, but would be interested in testing a pre-release of 1.6.0 that, hopefully, will also successfully retrieve your code? Would love to know if I've actually fixed the issue
from pinfinder.
Seems not working. Win10, iPad iOS 6.1.3. the copy haven't been encrypted, password truly exists on iPad, but pinfinder says "no passcode stored"... really disappointed.
from pinfinder.
@yungwood1 please send me an email at [email protected] and i'll send you the test version of 1.6.0 - i'd be very interested to know if that works for you

1.6.0 is now released.
