file.contents = new Buffer(coffee.compile(str, opt)); only works if the result of the compile method is a string.

With sourceMap set to true, the result is an object, {js: '', sourceMap: {}, v3SourceMap: ''}. Executing the Buffer method results in an empty string. So no output.

Looks like source maps are simply not handled yet in gulp-coffee.

The only problem I see with this is that the top of the compiled coffee file needs a comment with the path of the sourcemap which isn't known until later down the stream. Can those paths be relative (./something.js.map)? If so this should be easy

Looks like the paths are root-relative.

The .js files has a root-relative path to the .js.map file.
The .js.map file has a root-relative path to the .js and .coffee files.
