Simpler formatter API to transform DOM trees about scribe HOT 3 OPEN

Will this allow also autocompletions? Like Facebook is doing with mentioning users, or Twitter with @, or hashtags? So that you can start typing some special characters, which are then autocompleted and replaced with some more reach content (like link to what you added, like hashtag, person)?

So probably the question is: will formatters be synchronous or asynchronous? When user enters something, I detect a change, can I pop up a dialog or some other UI, ask user for more input (selecting the right option among proposed) and after user closes UI, I decide how to replace what user just entered and replace that.

Formatters are there to transform the content of the editor (as HTML or DOM nodes). The kind of UI that you describe is more of a plugin that reacts to events, unless you want to do crazy things like put the content of the dropdown inside the editor, which is probably not a good idea.
