In my professional work I strive to build software platforms for meaningful, socially responsible interaction between people and data, especially in support of cultural heritage, journalism, social history, and digital preservation. After successive experiences building digital repositories and asset management systems for cultural heritage, I've found my way into software research in the information studies area. I know that we have great challenges and opportunities ahead there, especially in the area of knowledge extraction, amalgamation, and reuse.

I am available for part-time freelance work in any area touching on the opportunities mentioned above.

With the rest of my time I like to build things out of wood, create small electronics, and generally mess about with craft projects, especially when these can replace mass produced crap and/or "smart" devices. I like to play computer games, read anthropology, and preach socialism. Always up for a coffee, a pint, a sailing trip, or a wander through a real, human marketplace.

• Personally finishing up with the conversion of S.V. Minerva, my 1976 Tartan 34 sailboat, to electric propulsion and starting a 1983 Econoline 250 van conversion with my partner Alexis.

  • The Long Dark (Survived 50 days on "Interloper" so far, hurrah!)
  • Valheim (shared private server)
  • Old World (as I gradually wean myself off Civilization VI)
  • Archipelago - A story game with friends using the Archipelago system. We invented a medieval creeping horror refugee setting this time. Themes:
