I think it is the same error that I reported in #20, that happens with libxml-ruby 2.9.0, an issue in libxml-ruby not resolved (but unfortunately closed) deals with that, see xml4r/libxml-ruby#127
In applications where I use rspreadsheet my workaround in this moment is to use libxml-ruby 2.8.0.

I have accepted your pull request and the gem now uses 2.8.0. It seems to be ok now, so I close this bug. Feel free to reopen, if needed.
