Is there any way to create daydream compatible remote using open sourced gvr sdk?

The Google VR SDK enables developers to build apps for Daydream and Cardboard. However, please note, as of October 15, 2019, the Daydream View VR headset is no longer available for purchase and Google will no longer release updates to the Google VR SDK. The Google VR SDK remains available for developers to update and distribute their Daydream apps to the Google Play Store, and make them available to users in the Daydream app. The Cardboard open source project replaces the Google VR SDK for use with Cardboard. We recommend that all developers actively building for Google Cardboard migrate (iOS, Android NDK) to using this new Cardboard SDK. Note that a Unity SDK package is still being developed, see issue #8.

As said above, the Cardboard open source project replaces the Google VR SDK for use with Cardboard, which does not include a controller within its system. Due to this, this SDK does not support controller usage.

Don't know how to phrase this differently. Does the code here in the cardboard repo supersede the one in https://github.com/googlevr/gvr-android-sdk ? E.g. I can't find any code in here that will support the Daydream remote?

Shame, the inclusion of open source mobile friendly 3dof controller would really benefit low range vr, in my class we make do with really cheap chinese sets but they lack 3dof and we have to resort to some experimental stuff.
