The -v and -logtostderr flags actually come from the glog logging library (https://github.com/golang/glog). I've updated the doc to indicate this.
Also, apparently Go's built-in flag handling doesn't differentiate between long and short-style parameters. It accepts any parameter with either - or --prefixes. I've updated the example to use a single dash before the -v flag.
