I'm inclined to disagree. There are quite a few APIs which do not use numeric version numbers, particularly beta API versions and unreleased API versions. Better to treat it as a string and don't try to get all magical. It's one character. Developers can stick a 'v' in there just fine without the client doing it for them.

Got it, didnt realize google had non numeric version numbers in their Apis.

For future reference, is github the right place to file issues, or do your
prefer the google project page?
