Thanks for reporting this. It looks like there was an issue where the default history implementation was returning "false" from init, emulating a browser where history support wasn't available. I've flipped it to true in bf16f41, which should make things work (at least, getToken() will return the same thing as newItem()).

I've pushed a new snapshot with this fix. If you don't want to use the new snapshot release, you can work around the problem in the current version of GwtMockito by adding this to your test, which will give the same behavior:

public void setUpHistory() {
  GwtMockito.useProviderForType(HistoryImpl.class, new FakeProvider<HistoryImpl>() {
    @Override
    public HistoryImpl getFake(Class<?> type) {
      return new HistoryImpl() {
        @Override
        public boolean init() {
          return true;
        }
      };
    }
  });
}
