Yes, definitively a good idea.
The project is inactive a long time but there are a number of new other projects drawing from it (for instance, several plugins for IDEs like Atom and SublimeText).
The main benefit of using CodeSearch is increased speed of lookup for large code bases. The price you pay is upfront full indexing.
However the lack of incremental indexing makes CodeSearch suitable only for quasi-static code bases!
