An application can detect ErrNil using == and !=:
literals, err := redis.String(conn.Do("HGET", "user", "root"))
if err != nil && err != redis.ErrNil {
log.Printf("Error (%s): %s\n", literals, err)
return nil, err
}
ErrNil allows the application to distinguish between nil and "". This distinction is important in my application and probably others.

@garyburd OK, thx.
But, ErrNil can be access by other package, so it can be reassigned. It's a hidden trouble, is it not?

The ErrNil declaration is idiomatic Go. See http://go.pkgdoc.org/io#_variables for examples of similar declarations in the Go standard library.
If you are always ignoring ErrNil in your application, then it might be convenient to write your own string function:
func String(v []interface{}, err error) (string, error) {
if v == nil {
return "", err
}
return redis.String(v, err)
}

OK, I see, but I feel a little strange because it's unsafe. Thx.
