I'm shipping protocol buffers from multiple sources to a central aggregator. The sources marshal at a rate of about 500k/s but my central aggregator unmarshals at only ~100k/s. Any work done here would lead to a proportional performance improvement for me.

So first thing would be to have a benchmark to show how much faster this technique will be.
Also this technique will not work for maps, which are introduced in proto3.
I have made an extension for extensions to rather store them in a byte array, than a map, so this technique should still work for extensions when that extension is activated.

It seems they want to implement a moving garbage collector for go.
I think this screws up my plan here.
