Thanks for the update. Looking forward to potential solutions, right now I am just doing the save in two steps as a workaround.

As a side question, is there currently a way to obtain those runtime errors and other query errors (such as the server died or other server specific errors) in a go-like fashion like err = orm query here, I would ideally like to handle those explicitly instead of relying on the panic/recover functionality.

I just fixed this issue.

You are possible to get error message with err := db.First(&user).Error

For this error, this is caused gorm is comparing uncomparable type []main.Note, but because go doesn't provide a interface for us to check if the type is comparable, so this is means the panic is not avoidable by checking error ;(

But I handled those kinds of errors in gorm, so you don't need to worried about them now.
