I assume it should also prune remote branches (i.e. the ones on Github). One huge problem I have with many projects is that they accumulate a plethora of old branches on Github. Because people don't clean up their old branches. git prune could provide a lot of value by cleaning those up.

Can't use prune as there is already a "git prune". Thinking of going with "git trim". Any better names?

"Trimming" to me is more something that cuts something that has grown too much back to normal size.
