Hi,

I tried to reproduce your issue but it worked OK for me.
1 - I open a mail
2 - I click on "Print" icon
3 - On the first opened tab, I click on SingleFile icon, the banner appears
4 - I click on the link into the banner, the page is downloaded without creating extra folder (actually, since the saving process does not rely on native "Save as" dialog, it should be impossible to have this extra folder)

I also tried to disable 'display save banner' and 'display save notification' options in order to use the native "Save as" dialog (as it worked on SingleFile 0.2.x) : it also works as expected (a singlefile is saved file without extra folder).

Please make sure that SingleFile version is 0.3.1 (a non-blocking regression was introduced in 0.3.0), then reset your options (with the reset button). If it still does not work, try to restart the browser.

Please, can you give me more information about your OS name/version, chrome version ?

hi gildas-lormeau

thanks for the prompt reply!

my system is windows 7 home edition (64-bit), chrome 15.0.874.121 (when I open About Chrome, it says it is up to date), running on a sony vaio laptop (just over 1 year old) with 4 gb ram, i3 cpu, m 330 at 2.13 ghz.

single file version is 0.3.2 (for both singlefile and core).

i tried reproducing the fault from startup with no other applications running and the same thing has occurred. (I've screen-captured every step - i can send you the screenshots if you want, just provide an email.)

I did all the steps as you suggested above, clicked on the banner and saved a webpage of 211 kb size.
When I open this webpage in Chrome it shows a blank page with 'Loading [email protected]' and then stops.
The same thing happened when I tried to open the saved webpage in Firefox (3.6.23) and IE (9.0.8112.16421).

When I look into SingleFile Options, and it shows that

Basic
Remove frames - unchecked
Remove objects - checked
Remove hidden objects - unchecked
Add entry in the context menu - checked
Display save banner - checked
Display save notification - unchecked

Advanced
remove scripts - checked
remove unused css rules - unchecked
send saved page to pagearchiver - unchecked
process raw document - unchecked
process in background - unchecked (actually it's greyed out checked)

When I click on Reset to default options, nothing happens, ie all the boxes are checked/unchecked as above.

I've also tried other ways of work around this eg
a) copying the url and pasting it into a new window, or
b) clicking on Open (email) in New Window icon, etc), or
c) unchecking Display Save Banner and using Save As (the old way)
but it always either creates a 0kb webpage, or a non-0kb webpage that doesn't open.

I'd be happy to go back to the previous version of singlefile - which was working really well for me - while this thing is sorted. I think I can just install the CRX file of the previous version but I cannot find anywhere where I can download an earlier version of singlefile - is it possible for you to email it to me? My email is [email protected].

(I'm kind of desperate because I use SingleFile all the time, right now I am Screen Capturing whole webpages, which takes up a lot of space, and is not very elegant solution :)

Thanks for your help!

YY

Last version (0.3.3) of SingleFile adds a new feature: now, you can save a frame content via the context menu. It could help to fix your issue with gmail:

  • open the mail in a popup
  • save the main frame with context menu
  • wait until the banner appears into the popup

When I use Single File on this page
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1264391
the saved file does not display the large image near the top, which remains black.

@terrypin999 I cannot reproduce the issue. I did the test in the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox with the default settings in SingleFile. What browser are you using? Did you change any setting in SingleFile?

Thanks, appreciate the quick response. I’m using Waterfox (classic) and have not knowingly changed any settings in Single File. Is there any file, screenshot or other information I can send to help isolate the problem?

BTW I also opened the HTML in Chrome but that black rectangle was still displayed.

@terrypin999 Thank you for the additional info. I was able to reproduce the issue.

This is due to the fact that SingleFile transformed the image as a background image. It's an optimization used to reduce the size of the saved page when images are repeated. Unfortunately, the maximum size of the background image is limited in Waterfox Classic. That's why you see this bug. To disable this optimization and fix the issue, uncheck the option Images > group duplicate images together.

I'm glad to hear it! :)

Actually, you should indeed have created a new issue on GitHub. That's why you have some difficulties to find it, I guess. The current one was created in 2011 and was describing a bug with GMail. Note that's not a problem for me since I'm notified when any issue is updated. However, it might be hard for another user having the same question to find the current discussion.

You can reply on GitHub or by email to an issue, the result is the same. In both cases, the message will be posted on GitHub, see #2 (comment).
