Your problem is most likely the OpenGL version. I've seen this problem several times, so I'm adding a note to the install tutorial here:

@iche033 said it should be possible to catch the Ogre exception and fail elegantly instead of crashing. Let's leave this issue open until that's implemented.

running into the same issue when in headless mode ign gazebo -s -v 4 depth_camera_sensor.sdf and ign gazebo -s -v 4 fuel_textured_mesh.sdf with Citadel (ignition gazebo server v3.0.0~pre3) on OSX Mojave. Installed Ogre 1.9 and Ogre 2.1 using homebrew.
