I pushed a test project for this issue. The solution contains two projects, NUnitWithRDotNet and NUnitWithRProvider. As written in the source code, the test runner won't terminate with the NUnitWithRProvider test.

I occasionally get the same behavior - when debugging RProvider (running in one VS using another VS), the debugger catches this exception.
I suppose this might be fixed when we switch to the upcoming version of R.NET?

I'll be looking into the R provider over the next couple of weeks; will let you know how I go with this issue in mind, so that we can hopefully close it.
