The Vim mode in Frescobaldi 1.x was indeed part of KDE's KatePart, which Frescobaldi was using. A Vim mode is on the TODO list!

Is there a way to vote this up? Frescobaldi's Vi input mode was the reason to use it.

I can tell Frescobaldi is maturing, and gaining wonderful features, but not having Vi mode, is sending me back to Vim. The integration with an external PDF viewer might not be so wonderful (that is wonderful in Fresco) but, I'm really not about to 'adapt' to a lesser editor.

Perhaps I can help coding

PS. I'm reviewing the source code. I must say I'm completely in awe how a full featured, snappy, GUI like this can be done in python while cutting all dependencies to KDE. Huge kudos here. I'm starting to get really interested, if only to learn more about python-qt4

I started already at a VI mode, but it is far from complete :) I have no development time this year, but it will increase somewhat in the near future. Yes: Python-Qt is a wonderful combi!

I would also be very interested in seeing this feature added to Frescobaldi.

Having a vim mode inside Frescobaldi would be wonderful; it's something I also miss a lot when using this IDE. If I can help, given my -probably basic- knowledge (BSc in CS, I know Python / Java / Javascript / basic C), please tell me.

Maybe it would be easier to add an interface to libvim?
