Seems to be an issue with the python-poppler-qt4 binding.

OK, I'll try and push on this more with the Ubuntu maintainer for that package. Thanks for looking into it!

Ubuntu 12.04 has python-poppler-qt4 version 0.16.2-1, is that adequate for Frescobaldi?

Yes, but the crash you experience could be a bug in the python-poppler-qt4 package (which is also maintained by me :-)

I will ask on the PyQt list what could be the cause of this crash.

Thanks for looking into it. Is there any feedback? Any testing I could do?

well the problem is that the stacktraces don't contain symbols.

If possible you should install python-qt4-debug (or -dbg) and its dependencies if you want.

Then you can try to get the bug again and the stacktraces will give more information.

Well, I have updated to ubuntu 12.04 and also got the assert/crash. Both with the old, manually compiled version and with the package provided by Ubuntu. But then I manually compiled python-poppler-qt4 again and the problem went away.

So the problem is that the Ubuntu-compiled python-poppler-qt4 package is not compiled correctly, because it behaves in the same way as my old package behaved before I recompiled it anew.

So I consider it a ubuntu packaging bug and not a Frescobaldi bug, so closing it here.

Thanks so much for all your help on this issue, Wilbert. The Ubuntu/Debian package maintainer has provided a recompiled python-poppler-qt4 package in the following LaunchPad PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ryanakca/+archive/frescobaldi

This works for me, so hopefully the problem is resolved and the package will soon be pushed into official Ubuntu repositories.
